The following is two poems I wrote for an American Lit class

Thoughts from a Puritan

Trust in the Lord almighty, for He watches over his children
They trust in His power, for He is quick to protect them
They trust in his strength, for none can stand against him
They trust His ways, for none compares to his wisdom

Love the Lord almighty, in Him is found salvation
He saves those who repent, and makes a new nation
He washes them with blood, and his power saves them
Even the hardened criminal, seeing His glory craves from him
Thoughts from a broken Puritan

Broken and all alone in this hallow house,
Sharing a bed with a man that has her in his heart,
Shame and anger I now wear like a stain on my blouse,
This drowning loneliness is for me only the start.

As a child I dreamed of a love that was true
That man I would marry, leading me towards our Father
Those dreams once held close, have now been hewed
Love that is true and pure is no longer worth his bother
